Cancer is a an ailment that allows uncontrolled growth of cells in the human system. This cell growth is caused by irregularities in the genetic as a result of chemicals, radiation and/or other infectious agents. Skin cancer infects people of all different skin tones and is formed on the skin organ of the body, primarily on the areas that receives more exposure to the sun. Skin cancers can also develop on areas that don't get as much sunlight.

Skin cancers is made up of of three main categories, Malignant melanoma, Squamous cell carcinoma, Basal cell carcinoma and non-melanoma skin cancers such as sabeceous gland carcinoma, merkel cell carcinoma and Kaposi sarcoma. There are various warnings you can see in cases of skin cancer, the most common though is finding any form of new growth on the skin area such as small lumps and the warnings can also vary based on the type of skin cancer.

Symptoms of a Malignant melanoma may include a shiny, firm; dome-shaped bumps that can be found anywhere on the surface of the skin. A mole that transforms in color size or feel and/or that bleeds, dark abrasions on your palms, soles, fingertips, toes or on mucous membranes lining your nose, mouth, vagina and anus or a large brown looking spot with darker speckles located anywhere on the skin.

For Squamous cell skin cancer, one of the signs can be a flat scaly lesion with a crusted exterior or a firm red nodule identified anywhere on the face, ears, neck, hands or arms. All of these spots, legions or bumps can appear suddenly and build up slowly overtime without being identified. A abrasion known as Actinic keratosis, actinic cheilitis is also a precancerous condition that usually appears on the lower lips but it can also be found on other places on the face, lower arms and hands. If signs of scaly patches or persistent dryness and cracking of the lips are present this may be a warning sign of skin cancer. Other symptoms which is less common includes swelling of the lip, loss of the sharp border between the lip and skin, and prominent lip lines. Actinic cheilitis may evolve into invasive squamous cell carcinoma if not treated.

For Basal cell skin cancer one of the warning sign is finding a flat, flesh colored or brown scar - like lesion on your chest or back and also finding a pearly or waxy bump on the ears, neck or face. The symptoms of sebaceous gland carcinoma can be the growth of a hard, painless nodule anywhere on the skin. For merkel cell carcinoma, shiny nodules of various sizes may occur in the hair follicles beneath the skin; mostly on skin areas exposed to a lot of sunlight. The nodules can also be the color blue, red or pink. This form of cancer can develop rapidly to other areas. Kaposi sarcoma skin cancer is also a very dangerous form of cancer, it is formed within the skins blood vessels which causes purple patches to form on the skin and mucous membranes.

There are also persons with various skin types who are more susceptible to skin cancers than others. This includes individuals who are easily burnt, people with fair skin tones and people that have freckles. Persons who are born red or blonde haired are also more susceptible to skin cancer as well as people with light colored eyes such as green or blue.
